Summer is over and I am spending my time working through approximately 30,000 photos of the Cowichan Region that I shot in the past 4 or 5 months. The more I see of this beautiful area the more impressed I am with what the Cowichan has to offer and I think that many will agree. I have always mentioned to people that actually doing the photography is the easy part, putting the computer time in to edit and label the images is another story. It does however allow me to relive many amazing trips I have made this past year.
I managed to photograph everything from the local fall fairs and culinary events to some of the lovely scenery the Cowichan region is known for. A few of the highlights for me were the Cobble Hill Fall Fair celebrating their 100th anniversary and doing it in style, the Islands Folk Festival celebrating 25 years of great music and on a more personal project, working on photographing all the Cowichan wildflowers and mushrooms that add so much to our area. As you might guess, this is a huge undertaking and will likely take me a few years at least!
The online Cowichan Photo Gallery now contains 4,211 photographs covering a vast number of subjects. I expect this number will climb to over 5,000 photographs within a month so if you are interested in photos of the Cowichan region and Vancouver Island there is plenty to look at. This is only a small number of the total amount of photographs I have however; so if you are interested in purchasing prints or managed rights for your projects I likely have what you require. Feel free to contact me.
What does the future hold for the Cowichan Valley Photos web site? I have been adding content about the many areas and events to explore whether you’re a local or a tourist. This is an ongoing project but one that I am dedicated to plugging away at when I have the time. If there is something you would like to see added to this site feel free to contact me and I’ll add it if possible.
A number of photography projects are in the works that will be of interest to many and they are free! I’m putting out a Cowichan 2010 wall calendar that you will be able to download and either print yourself or have printed at your local store (London Drugs, Staples etc.). These have been very popular in the past, stay tuned for more information. As well, I’m working on some Cowichan screen savers that will be available within a few weeks. There is nothing better than being able to enjoy our own beautiful valley or share the valley with friends.
My new book, The Cowichan – Duncan, Chemainus, Ladysmith and Region produced with writer Georgina Montgomery is now available at many local stores. We are having a book launch at Bistro 161 in Duncan on November 5th, 2009, click here for more information. I hope to see many of you there!
